Terms like UI and UX are often used when discussing important aspects of a web or mobile product.

But what's the difference?

UI refers to User Interface Design. In general, any piece of data that is rendered to a screen can be considered an interface. User interface designers typically develop the layout and organization of the information on screens — to do so, they may also create IAs — or information architectures. Sometimes, but not always, User Interface designers may also be visual designers. Visual designers control the pixels on the screen.

UX is a much broader concept. The user experience is essentially every aspect of a company or product that touches a customer. It can include very tactical initiatives, like the visual design of an application, or it can be extremely strategic, like managing the overall brand of a company.
